To get started, the best thing to do is download some default playlists that iReal Pro has assembled. And you can buy additional style packs such as Blues for around $5 if you like. So you get style categories like Jazz, Latin and Pop, each of which have many sub styles within so you can customize how you want your song to sound. When you buy iReal Pro and download it to your device (I paid around $21 CDN so about $16 US), you get access to all of the chord charts in the database, and you also get access to the default “styles” for playing back your song. So what is iReal Pro? It is an app that at this moment in time is available for iOS, Android and Macs, and I will be reviewing the iOS version that I use on my iPad. There are plenty of other UI changes I'll have to make for things like the song editor, cropping editor, etc, so that certain features are disabled for unsupported file types. In order to support any file type, I would probably want to add a new Import->External Application File option (or something along those lines). I'm not sure it's going to be a very good user experience having to jump between applications, but I suppose it's better than nothing.Ĭurrently, I filter out unsupported file types in the file browser. If not, a list of applications would be shown that support that file type (I'm sure you've probably seen this behavior already). If a default application is associated with that file type, it should be used automatically to load the file.
When the the song is shown and the file type is seen as being unsupported, an intent would be sent out indicating that the associated file needs to be loaded. In order for the application design to still work, I would need to create one page songs from unsupported file types so that you can still page through setlists and such (and load the song individually). I can certainly see the value in supporting the ability to launch external applications for unsupported file types.
